Imagine being in the 90s.

Your friend, one of the many with the Rachel Haircut, comes over to your house.

After a lengthy discussion on the Clinton Administration, Beanie Babies, and Nirvana, she mentions that the local library is now delivering.

You look at her, confused, quite confused, and ask, “Pizza?”

Before bursting into laughter, she replies, “No silly, books!”

“So, I won’t have to get my keys, get the car ready, and fight through traffic – Herculean tasks – just for me to realize that once I’m at the library, I left my library card at home?”

“You bet!”

While we, and hopefully you, still love going to the library, the future is now, and you can have eBooks sent to your devices directly from your public library.

It’s pretty easy to do. The guide is down below.

Step #1 – Go to www.overdrive.com and click on “browse our collection”.

Step #2 – Select a category. In our specific example, we clicked on the category “Children”.

Step #3 Pick whatever book you want to read. We picked Wonder.

Step #4 – Click on “Find in your library” or “In libraries nearby”. We selected “In libraries nearby” and picked the LA County Library.

Step #5 – On this page, check to see if there is a copy available for you to borrow. If there is, click “Borrow”.

Step #6 – On the popup, select how many days you would like to borrow the book. We selected 14 days.

Congratulations! You have officially checked out an eBook from your local library.

You can now start reading it immediately in your browser, download it as an EPUB eBook, or read it with Kindle.
